Farraz Story –
Farraz is 31 years old. He is one of the first students of Society for the Welfare of Autistic Children(SWAC), enrolled in 2000. He was about 16 years of age, an adolescent at that time. His parent did not expect him to learn a lot at that age. But to their surprise Farraz moved on and made a lot of progress. We hope he will be the model students/persons at the conference.
His vocabulary increased and his self help skills improved. He learned to cut his nails, wear a belt and tie his shoe laces. He learned to shave with a little bit of supervision.
He learned to write his full name, telephone number and use the calculator and computer. He learned art. He became very skillful with handicraft work, eg: jewelry making, paper technology, block design on paper and fabric, tie dye, dry flower arrangement, paper bags and envelopes. He learned washing, ironing and folding clothes. He is good at washing dishes and drying, setting and cleaning tables, cutting vegetables, doing beds, sorting out and putting away shopping.
Farraz learned most of these things at Society for the Welfare of Autisitc Children(SWAC) School. We are grateful to our teachers for his development.
Farraz’ strengths: his compliance, his eagerness to work, his skills in handicraft and domestic work.
His challenges: Farraz has epilepsy and high blood pressure. He is on medication. Generally, he is very cheerful, but due to side effects of the medication, sometimes he becomes irritable and screams. Farraz follows instructions but his communication skills are not very good.
His interests: Farraz loves doing handicraft and domestic work. His work is his enjoyment. He is very enthusiastic about learning new things. In his free time he listens to music and plays with puzzles. Farraz loves the good life. He likes dressing up smartly, wearing new clothes and shoes. He likes eating out at restaurants, visiting relatives, parks, especially amusement parks, travelling, concerts and parties.
